The year is 2025 and considering the recent overturning of Obergefell v. Hodges there have been a multitude of protests across the nation. Ophelia and Eva have been married for three years, and recently have been trying to get pregnant. They live in Louisiana where it’s no longer legal for them to be married, and they’re at a loss for what to do. Ophelia had told Eva that this would eventually happen, especially after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. Eva suggests that they should go to one of the protests, and without question Ophelia says of course they should go. The police presence has gotten more intense in the years leading up to the overturning of Obergefell v. Hodges. Due to the number of protests that have ended in violence and arrests, Eva is preparing their protest bags for later that evening so that they can stay as safe as possible.
Eva and Ophelia know it’s right to fight for their love, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t terrified. Through the years people have died fighting for their rights, and this protest will be no different. They make their way to Baton Rouge to protest outside the state capitol, and within minutes of them arriving things start to go south. From down the street they can see a group of people dressed in all black garbed with assault rifles and tear gas. As the crowd starts to see these people chaos ensues, and people start running away. The moment people start running the gunshots start, amongst the chaos Eva and Ophelia get separated. No matter how hard she tries Ophelia can’t find her wife, so she decides to run into one of the businesses off the street to get away from the gunfire. Next thing she knows Ophelia hears Eva yelling her name followed by more gunshots and silence. Ophelia can no longer hold it together, and she starts to completely breakdown. She looks out the window and sees Eva on the ground, but from where she is, it’s hard to tell if Eva is alive or dead. Ophelia runs outside to try to save her wife, but before she reaches her there’s a loud bang and next thing Ophelia knows is that she is on the ground. Ophelia is trying her hardest to stay awake, but the pain is overwhelming, and she passes out.
